Dr. Eckel joined Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers in 2021 as a consultative optometrist upon completion of their 13-month ocular disease residency program. He received his optometric degree with honors from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He was awarded the first place National InfantSee Scholarship for all optometry students. Prior to studying optometry, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health while also obtaining a minor in Business Management at Brigham Young University.
During Dr. Eckel’s clinical training at The Ohio State University College of Optometry, he had rotations through several specialty clinics including ocular disease, pediatrics, binocular vision and brain injury, vision therapy, contact lenses and low vision rehabilitation. He also completed externship rotations at the Salt Lake City VA and Five Points Eye Care in Athens, Georgia. Dr. Eckel also worked as an optometric technician at 360 Care, helping to provide eye care to residents of nursing homes in Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Indiana.
Dr. Eckel is a member of Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society, the American Optometric Association, the American Academy of Optometry, the Ohio Optometric Association and the Kentucky Optometric Association.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Eckel loves playing with his young children and spending time with his wife. His hobbies include tennis, hiking and writing music. He is a talented musician who plays piano and sings.
